Syrian film director plans to make feature film about Russian officer killed in Syria

ORENBURG, May 6. /TASS/. Syrian film director George Massouh says he would like to make a film about Russian officer Alexander Prokhorenko, who died the death of a hero in Syria this spring. He declared the intention while talking to the media in Orenburg Region, where the ceremony of remembrance for the officer, posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia title, has come to an end.
"I’ve traveled thousands of kilometers to pay the last respects to the hero. Alexander died while defending the Syrian people and helpless children. His death can help stop war. Possibly, I’ll make a film about him," he said.
The funeral ceremony was held in the village of Gorodki, the Tulgan district of the Orenburg Region. The region’s governor has declared Friday a day of mourning. More than a thousand people gathered for the funeral.
"We are saying the last words of farewell to a true officer. He lived a very short but a very bright life. He had chosen service in an elite army unit of his own accord," the presidential representative in the Volga Federal District, Mikhail Babich, said. "He committed an act of heroism. We will be teaching thousands of our boys to remember he is a worthy example of real manhood."
"I am expressing sincere gratitude to the parents for what their son has accomplished. Please accept my apologies. The land of Orenburg land is proud of Alexander and is mourning for him. He accomplished his duty to the full," said Orenburg Governor Yuri Berg.
Prokhorenko, 25, died while guiding from the ground strikes by Russian planes against the positions of Islamic State militants (IS is outlawed in Russia as a terrorist organization) near Syria’s Palmyra. Surrounded by militants, he requested friendly fire. He was posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia title. The Orenburg authorities have made a decision to name one of the streets in Orenburg in his honor.
