Bronze bust of Yuri Gagarin to be installed at Buenos Aires planetarium
The bust is already in Buenos Aires and work is underway at the moment to prepare the pedestal
BUENOS AIRES, April 13. /TASS/. A bronze bust of the first man in space, Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, will be installed at the Galileo Galilei planetarium in central Buenos Aires to mark 55 years since the first ever manned spaceflight, the head of the Russian compatriots agency Rossotrudnichestvo’s mission in Argentina told Tass on Tuesday.
"The planetarium accepted our offer with gratitude. Our space achievements are highly valued here, their authors are admired and the memory of pioneers is held sacred," Valery Kucherov said.
The move was initiated by the mission of the Federal Agency for CIS Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad and International Humanitarian Cooperation (Rossotrudnichestvo) in Argentina and the international charitable foundation Dialog of Cultures-United World. The bust was made by Ukrainian sculptor Alexei Leonov.
The ceremony to unveil the bust is expected at the end of April or early in May. The bust is already in Buenos Aires and work is underway at the moment to prepare the pedestal.
