Camel fleeing Zoo in Russia’s Ufa caught by police
The camel got frightened by a brown bear that broke free from her enclosure and roamed the territory of the zoo
UFA, March 27. /TASS/. A camel nicknamed Yasha which fled a zoo in the Russian city of Ufa and roamed the city streets has been caught by the police, a spokesman for the local police department told TASS on Sunday.
The camel got frightened by a brown bear that broke free from her enclosure and roamed the territory of the zoo. The zoo attendants narcotized the beast and put her back to her enclosure. "Her neighbor, camel Yasha, got frightened, tore himself from leash and fled the zoo’s territory. The animal was caught several minutes after the escape and brought back to his enclosure," the press service of the Ufa administration told TASS.
Photos and videos posted in social networks feature the camel running around Ufa’s Chernikova district amidst startled passersby.
Vladimir Aivazya, the zoon’s director, said however he sees nothing extraordinary about a camel roaming city streets. "Dozens of camels are seen in the streets of Antalya or Thailand cities. I don’t understand all this fuss about this incident, the more so as the animals are back at their enclosures and no one was hurt. Everything’s all right," he told TASS.
Among animals kept at this zoo are white and Siberian tigers, a liger (ahybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger), an American panther, bears, and camels.
Meanwhile, the Ufa city authorities have decided not to extend the lease of the land plot for this zoo. "The lease agreement expires on March 31 and the administration of Ufa’s Kalininsky district has decided not to extend it," the press service for the Ufa administration said.
