Chechen leader says slain Russian politician Nemtsov did not bother him
Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of the murdered Russian politician, has earlier demanded that Kadyrov should be questioned as a witness in the case
MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov told television on Saturday murdered Russian politician Boris Nemtsov did not get in his way.
"Nemtsov did not bother me at all, in fact. That’s because he is not my level," Kadyrov told the NTV TV channel.
The comments came as Russia commemorates the first anniversary of Nemtsov’s death. Nemtsov, co-chairman of the RPR-Parnas political party, was shot dead in downtown Moscow on February 27, 2015.
Several thousand people have come for a rally in downtown Moscow in memory of Nemtsov. Similar events will be held across Russia and abroad on Saturday.
Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of the murdered Russian politician, has earlier demanded that Kadyrov should be questioned as a witness in the case. Russia’s Investigative Committee refused to satisfy her request.
The complaint said that Kadyrov personally knew the suspects in the Nemtsov murder case, Zaur Dadayev and also Beslan Shavanov, who blew himself up during the detention in Grozny. "Taking into consideration the statements of Kadyrov and also the old-time history of his conflict with Nemtsov, the head of Chechnya may have information not only on the perpetrators of the murder, but also on the organizers and contractors," the complaint said.
Preliminary investigation into the killing has been completed. Five men, including suspected perpetrator Zaur Dadayev, have been formally charged in the Nemtsov murder case.
