YAKUTSK, February 24. /TASS/. Siberian fans of Leonardo DiCaprio, awaiting Hollywood's Oscar awards verdict on his latest blockbuster "The Revenant", have made a symbolic "Oscar" statuette of 1.5 kilograms of silver for their favorite actor.

"Our award is ready," Tatiana Yegorova, one of the tribute's organizers told TASS on Friday. "We have sent a letter to DiCaprio’s foundation to find a way to hand over the ‘Oscar’ to the actor and are waiting for the answer."

Organizers said earlier they hope to hand over the award with the help of Russians living in the US.

More than 140 Yakutia’s women gave their silver jewelry pieces to be melted into to the "Oscar for Leo."

The metal was cast into the shape of a man holding a Choron, the local language name for a three-legged goblet "symbolizing peace and expressing people’s love for the actor".

Gold was melted down for the Choron and silver for the figure holding it - silver being a metal sacred to the people of Yakutia holding powers to purify and protect its owner.

Yakutia’s sculptors and jewelers have been working on the award for more than two weeks.

"We appreciate that DiCaprio dedicated his Golden Globe best actor award to the minor indigenous peoples," Yegorova said.

This year's Academy Awards ceremony will take place in Los Angeles on February 28, where DiCaprio is in the line-up for a real Oscar to celebrate success for "The Revenant" on the world's silver screens.

"The Revenant" tops the Academy Awards list with 12 nominations, including citations for Best Picture and Best Actor.

Lined up with DiCaprio, Best Male Actor may go to Michael Fassbender for "Steve Jobs", an American biographical drama; Eddie Redmayne, starring in British drama "The Danish Girl"; Matt Damon for "The Martian", an American science fiction movie; and Bryan Lee Cranston for "Trumbo", an American biography.
