First edition of Pushkin’s tragedy sells for record $103,000 at Christie's

LONDON, December 1. /TASS/. A record sum of $103,000 has been paid at Christie’s for the rare first edition of great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin’s first Boris Godunov tragedy, the auction house told TASS on Tuesday.
Christie’s put a number of poem’s rare books for sale on December 1. Among the highlights were Boris Godunov, written whilst Pushkin was exiled to his estate.
This work comes from the collection of Sergei Gessen, the Pushkin scholar.
The sum was the biggest one for the book since it was written in 1825.
Christie’s Russian sales also offered first edition of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, which sold for $35,800, and Historical, Geographical and Topographical description of St. Petersburg by Andrei Bogdanov, one of the first Russian bibliographers and ethnographers, sold for $49,000.
