Gergiev to pay homage to memory of Maya Plisetskaya with concert in Moscow
The world-famous ballet dancer Maya Plisetskaya would have turned 90 on November 20
MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. Artistic director of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev will give a concert in Moscow on Wednesday dedicated to the memory of world-famous ballet dancer Maya Plisetskaya who would have turned 90 on November 20.
The maestro’s press service noted that Plisetskaya was a close friend of Valery Gergiev and a friend of the Mariinsky Theater. Together with her husband composer Rodion Shchedrin she visited performances and festivals of the Mariinsky Theater not only in St.Petersburg and Moscow, she also came the music festival dedicated to cellist and conductor Mstislav Rostropovich in Samara in the Volga region, to the Moscow Easter Festival and the performances of the Mariisnky Theater Symphony Orchestra abroad.
The concert will be held in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra will perform Ravel’s Bolero, Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and Shchedrin’s Carmen Suite.
St.Petersburg will too pay homage to Maya Plisetskaya’s memory with a concert in the Mariinsky-2 concert hall on December 27. Taking part in the concert will be the Mariinsky Theater Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev and ballet dancer Diana Vishneva.
