Bear injures two children in Far East
This year, starving bears have become a major problem in the Maritime Territory with about 20 cases of dangerous situations, where bears approached settlements
VLADIVOSTOK, November 6. /TASS/. Two boys of 8 and 12 were delivered to hospital after a wild bear attacked them in the northern Maritime Territory in Russia's Far East, the local police told TASS on Friday.
"The bear attacked the boys on November 5, near their house," the police said, adding the local authorities have warned the locals about the danger.
This year, starving bears have become a major problem in the Maritime Territory. Local authorities have registered about 20 cases of dangerous situations, where bears approached settlements. The regional hunting control department said local people have seen over 40 bears. Eight people were injured, and one died. The police had to kill six bears, which behaved very aggressively.
In some regions, children are not allowed to be outside houses or schools without adults.
The hunting control department says in the region there are over 3,000 Asian black bears and about 2,500 brown bears.
