SMOLENSK, October 26. /TASS/. A family of refugees from Iraq who attempted to cross into Russia was detained in the western Smolensk region, the local border security service told TASS on Monday.
"The family was detained when trying to cross the Russian-Belarusian border," the statement said.
The family with three under-aged children is to be deported by the migration service.
According to the border service, it was the first case when Iraqi nationals were detained in the region. Over the last day, Egyptian, Georgian and Iranian nationals were detained for illegal border crossing and will be deported from Russia.
