Man loses 50 kilos to join Russian army

Sergey Malevanny wanted to join the airborne troops weighing 130 kilogrammes

MOSCOW, October 26. /TASS/. A 20-year-old man from the town of Prokopievsk in Siberia, found unfit for military service, has shed around 50 kilogrammes to join the airborne troops, a Central Military District spokesman said on Monday.

Sergey Malevanny, 171 centimetres tall and weighing 130 kilogrammes, had offered to lose weight after being denied conscription, the spokesman said.

Martial arts and diet helped Malevanny lose some 50 kilogrammes and made him fit for service, the spokesman said, adding that some 63,000 men will be conscripted to the Russian armed forces this autumn.
