Investigation over slaying of last Russian emperror's family resumed
For this purpose, the remains of Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra will be exhumed from the tombs in the St Peter and Paul’s Cathedral in Petersburg
MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Investigations Committee has reopened investigation of a criminal case over the slaying of Czar Nicholas II and his Imperial Family in July 1918 in Yekaterinburg, the committee’s official spokesman Vladimir Markin said.
Members of an inter-departmental workgroup that was set up in July at the request of the Russian Orthodox Church to monitor the research of remains of Crown Prince Alexis and Grand Princess Maria have proposed to hold an extra identification study, in the course of which the remains of the junior Romanovs would be compared with the remains of Grand Duchess Elizabeth, Empress Alexandra’s sister that are kept in Jerusalem, Markin said.
Comparison will also be drawn with the samples of blood of Nicholas II’s grandfather, Emperor Alexander II who died in a terrorist act in 1891.
"For this purpose, the remains of Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra will be exhumed from the tombs in the St Peter and Paul’s Cathedral in Petersburg," Markin said.
