This marks another stage in ZNPP systematic efforts to obtain the necessary permits in accordance with Russian nuclear energy regulations

MELITOPOL, October 22. /TASS/. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) has received a 10-year operating license for power unit No. 6 from Russia’s Federal Environmental, Industrial, and Nuclear Supervision Service (Rostekhnadzor), valid until October 21, 2036. This establishes a legal framework for the plant’s continued safe operation, the NPP said.

"The Zaporozhye NPP has received an operating license for power unit No. 6 from Rostekhnadzor. The license was issued for 10 years, until October 21, 2036. <…> Licensing establishes a legal framework for the plant’s continued safe operation. However, obtaining the license does not in itself mean that electricity generation will resume. Any change in the power unit’s operating mode will require a separate decision and compliance with all necessary safety requirements," the plant said on its Max channel.

The plant noted that this marks another stage in its systematic efforts to obtain the necessary permits in accordance with Russian nuclear energy regulations.

Power unit No. 6 is the third unit at the Zaporozhye NPP to receive a Russian operating license. Rostekhnadzor previously issued licenses for power unit No. 1 in December 2025 and power unit No. 2 in February 2026. The plant has also obtained licenses to operate radiation sources and its dry spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
