LONDON, October 15. /TASS/. Almost half of Britons would refuse to take up arms in the event of war, according to an Ipsos opinion poll.

"Nearly one in two Britons (48%) state there are no circumstances where they would be willing to take up arms and go to war for Britain, compared to 36% who say there are circumstances where they would," the pollster said.

According to Ipsos, the figures have changed little since August 2025, despite repeated statements by government officials about alleged security risks facing the United Kingdom.

Meanwhile, 51% of respondents believe the country’s defense spending should be increased, marking a significant rise from June 2022, when 28% of those polled shared that view.

The poll surveyed 1,090 British adults from September 29 to October 1.
