Russia ready to help US combat outbreaks of infectious diseases — sanitary watchdog
Rospotrebnadzor explained that the measles situation in three US states had deteriorated significantly in recent weeks
MOSCOW, October 6. /TASS/. Russian specialists are ready to help the United States fight outbreaks of infectious diseases, sanitary watchdog Rospotrebnadzor said.
"The Russian Federation is ready to assist the United States in combating outbreaks of infectious diseases," it said in a statement.
The watchdog explained that the measles situation in three US states has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. For instance, in August, four deaths were reported in Pennsylvania. On October 5, an emergency situation was declared in New York state due to the spread of the disease.
The situation with dangerous infectious diseases remains unstable. Since the beginning of 2026, an outbreak of typhus has been recorded in the United States (seven cases), the number of cases of typhoid fever has reached 205, and legionellosis has been reported.
Besides, according to Rospotrebnadzor, in June 2026, the first fatal case of plague in 2026 was reported in New Mexico. The disease was discovered in Santa Fe County. At the same time, according to the CDC, an average of seven cases of plague are reported annually in the United States, including fatal ones.
"Russia has extensive practical and scientific experience in ensuring epidemiological well-being both at home and abroad. To help prevent and control outbreaks of infections, Russia is ready to provide the US side with specialists, laboratory equipment, and highly effective diagnostic and preventive tools, which can help resume joint work between Russia and the United States in protecting public health from infectious threats," the watchdog said.
