PARIS, September 30. /TASS/. The French police have detained 440 people, mostly minors, during high school students protests near schools mainly in connection with property damage and attacks on law enforcement officers, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said on the BFMTV television channel.

"There were 440 arrests across the country," he said.

According to Nunez, about two-thirds of the detained were placed in custody.

He said that 48 law enforcement officers were injured during the unrest. There were seven cases, when hydrochloric acid was thrown at law enforcement officers.

High school students in the capital region have been holding protests near their educational institutions for a week now, protesting against the overloaded curriculum, the shortage of teachers, and other problems in the education system. In some cases, the protests escalate into riots and are accompanied by arson and clashes with the police.
