MADRID, September 24. /TASS/. More than 82% of Spaniards believe that Morocco triggered the migration crisis in the autonomous city of Ceuta, according to a poll published by 20 Minutos newspaper.

According to the newspaper, 6.5% of respondents disagree with this view, while about 11% were undecided. More than 63% of those polled also believe that the Spanish government has not taken a firm enough position on protecting its sovereignty over Ceuta and Melilla. Meanwhile, 82.7% of Spaniards believe that Madrid and the European Union should impose some form of sanctions on Morocco over its hypothetical involvement in the crisis.

More than 1,000 people took part in the poll, which was conducted from September 16 to 21.

In late July, tens of thousands of illegal migrants managed to reach Ceuta by swimming and wading around the breakwater separating the city from Morocco. Amid the crisis, Madrid decided to deploy military personnel to help ensure security in the city.
