US citizen Gilman released by Russia heads to hospital in Texas — activists
According to Global Reach, his family has flown to the state as well
NEW YORK, August 11. /TASS/. US citizen Robert Gilman, released by the Russian authorities, is now on his way to a hospital in Texas where he will undergo a medical examination and receive the required treatment, the Global Reach human rights organization that assisted his release has told TASS.
"Robert is on his way to a US military hospital in Texas, where he will be medically and psychologically assessed and treated. His family has flown to Texas - including his mother, who was in Russia attempting to see him at the hospital," the organization said.
On August 11, US President Donald Trump announced that US serviceman Robert Gilman convicted in Russia had been released and was on his way home. In Trump’s words, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to release him "on a humanitarian basis," without exchanging him for any of Russians held in custody on the US territory. According to Reuters, Gilman, detained for drunk debauchery on a railway station in Central Russia’s Voronezh in 2022, is being brought to the United States aboard a special flight. Meanwhile, Associated Press reported that the US citizen will be taken to a hospital in Texas for medical examination and treatment.
