Putin sends condolences to Xi Jinping over deadly mine accident

The Russian president asked the Chinese leader to convey his sympathy and support to the families of those killed and his wishes for a swift recovery to those injured

MOSCOW, May 23. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of condolences to Chinese leader Xi Jinping over a deadly mine accident in China’s Shanxi Province.

"Please accept my deepest condolences over the tragic outcome of an accident at a coal mine in the Shanxi Province," reads the message published on the Kremlin website.

Putin asked Xi to convey his sympathy and support to the families of those killed and his wishes for a swift recovery to those injured.

A blast occurred at the Liushenyu mine operated by Shanxi Tongzhou Group on May 22. According to the Xinhua news agency, 82 people were killed.
