About 80,000 people march in London — Sky News
The patriotic march under the slogan Unite the Kingdom, organized by the founder of the British far-right movement English Defense League, Tommy Robinson gathered about 60,000 people
LONDON, May 16. /TASS/. About 80,000 people took part in two protest rallies that took place in the British capital, Sky News channel quoted police commentator Graham Wettone as saying.
According to him, the patriotic march under the slogan Unite the Kingdom, organized by the founder of the British far-right movement English Defense League, Tommy Robinson (real name Stephen Yaxley-Lennon), gathered about 60,000 people, "or maybe slightly more."
About 20,000 people took part in the pro-Palestinian march called Nakba 78, which took place at the same time.
Sky News said these calculations are likely to upset the organizers of both demonstrations. Earlier, organizers for the pro-Palestine march estimated their protest was "ten times the size" of Robinson's rally, while Robinson said "millions" were attending his event, which was a clear exaggeration.
For both marches, which had already ended, clear routes were set, from which it was forbidden to deviate. About 4,000 police officers ensured that the demonstrators did not cross paths with each other.
The police reported the arrest of 31 people during the demonstrations, no serious incidents were recorded.
