Sandstorm from Turkey may reach Crimea and Krasnodar Region, but to be weak — scientist
Igor Vakhrushev said the Main Caucasian Ridge has a good orographic effect, and it will detain the storm
SIMFEROPOL, April 3. /TASS/. The sandstorm currently observed in Turkey’s cities may reach the Crimean Peninsula and Russia’s Krasnodar Region, but if it does, it will have weakened by then and will only be visible at sunrise and sunset, said Igor Vakhrushev, associate professor of the Faculty of Geography, Geoecology and Tourism at the V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University.
"This phenomenon could come to Crimea in the coming days, but it won’t be very pronounced. The mass described in Turkey is heading east. The Main Caucasian Ridge has a good orographic effect here, it will detain the storm. If Crimea and the Krasnodar Region do notice this effect, it will be weak. It can only be observed at sunrise and sunset," Vakhrushev told TASS.
On April 5-6, the wind will change, and there will be no dust at all, the scientist added.
The Antalya Akkind portal said on Friday that dense masses of dust and sand from Libya and the neighboring regions were carried across the Mediterranean Sea by southern winds and reached southern Turkey. In Antalya, visibility deteriorated and an increased concentration of dust appeared in the air, turning it a red-orange color.
