STOCKHOLM, October 9. /TASS/. On Thursday, the Swedish Academy will announce the winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature. According to the will of Alfred Nobel (1833-1896), the prize in this field is awarded to the author of "the best literary work of an idealistic character." What exactly was meant by "idealistic" remains a matter of debate.

At 1:00 p.m. local time (11:00 a.m. GMT), Mats Malm, permanent secretary of the academy and professor of literature at the University of Gothenburg, will announce the new laureate. Afterwards, Anders Olsson, chairman of the Nobel Committee, will deliver a speech about the winner.

Swedish experts have named several favorites for 2025, including French writer, playwright, and screenwriter Marie NDiaye, whose work explores the position of women in the modern world. Other potential winners include Australian writer Gerald Murnane, Chinese author Can Xue, Canadian poet Anne Carson, Hungarian prose writer and playwright Peter Nadas, and US writer Thomas Pynchon.
