Most Spaniards oppose sending country’s troops to Ukraine — poll

MADRID, March 17. /TASS/. The majority of Spanish citizens have rejected the idea of deploying the kingdom’s servicemen in Ukraine to take part in a hypothetical peacekeeping operation, according to a poll published by the La Razon newspaper.

Thus, 53.2% of the respondents were against such a prospect, while 37.3% said that Spain should take part in the mission. The remaining 9.5% were undecided. Almost 53% are concerned that the war may spread to Europe. Meanwhile, approximately 60% are not in favor of a hypothetical return of mandatory military service in the country.

Additionally, more than half of those surveyed (57.6%) agreed that it is necessary to increase the country’s defense spending, while 49.4% considered the current defense spending to be insufficient. A total of 39.7% of Spaniards believe that 2% of the GDP should be spent on the defense sector, while another 39% said that 3% of the GDP should be the goal.

The survey was taken by around 1,000 people and lasted from March 12 to March 15, 2025.
