Konyukhov reached the longitude of Cape Needle (South Africa) in 68 days
MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. Traveler Fyodor Konyukhov has already made it from South America to Australia in a rowing boat in a hundred days, which is about half of his journey, the expedition's headquarters reported.
"Today is exactly 100 days since Fyodor Konyukhov made a unique solo crossing of the Southern Ocean from South America to Australia in an Akros rowing boat. This route has never been attempted before. It will take an estimated 200 days to complete the crossing. About 6,100 kilometers remain to the expected finish in Western Australia," the headquarters said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
Konyukhov reached the longitude of Cape Needle (South Africa) in 68 days, thus crossing the South Atlantic for the first time and setting a world record for the first passage of this route in a rowing boat. He also celebrated his 73rd birthday in the South Atlantic on December 12.
About expedition
According to the traveler himself, he will have to cover a distance of 18,000 kilometers in 200 days. For this purpose it is necessary to row 15 hours a day. The passage to Australia will be the second stage of the circumnavigation in the Southern Ocean, the first part of which Konyukhov passed in 2018-2019. He then sailed 11,000 kilometers in 153 days.
