STOCKHOLM, February 28. /TASS/. Danish police said they formally filed charges of manufacture and possession of 3 kilograms of explosives against a Russian national suspected of posing a risk of an explosion at the Billund airport.

The 38-year-old man is charged with making, storing and transporting about 1 kilogram of explosives, which he himself then turned in at the airport’s police office in April last year.

In a separate explosives-related episode, the suspect is charged with making and transporting 2 kilograms of explosives and some detonators, which he then used to blow up an ATM in Billund. The man failed to get access to the cash, however.

"He caused a major disruption to airport operations, resulting in serious resource costs to the police and emergency services in connection with an evacuation of the airport, as well as economic losses, in particular for the Billund airport and a number of airlines," the police said.

The suspect was detained at the airport on April 20. The evacuation followed the man’s confession that the object he was carrying contained an explosive substance. He has been in custody since the detention.

It is unclear yet when the case will be submitted to a court.
