MOSCOW, December 27. /TASS/. The FSB has prevented a terrorist attack near a police station, which was being plotted by Central Asian natives - members of Wilayat Khorasan, a cell of the international terrorist organization Islamic State in Afghanistan, banned in Russia, the public relations center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) has said.
The suspects "purchased a motor vehicle and placed propane gas cylinders in it, after which they proceeded to manufacture a makeshift explosive device. When apprehended, the terrorists offered armed resistance to FSB operatives and were neutralized by return fire."
The FSB stressed it had suppressed the activity of a cell of an international terrorist organization whose members, natives of Central Asia, were planning to commit a terrorist act against one of the police stations. The attackers came to the attention of the security agencies while collecting information about an office of the Russian Interior Ministry in Moscow, selected as a target of a terrorist attack.
The investigative unit of the Moscow and Moscow Region FSB office has launched criminal proceedings under part 1 of article 30, part 2 of article 205 and part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code (preparations for a terrorist attack and participation in the activities of a terrorist organization).
"In the course of investigative measures at the radicals’ place of residence, ammunition, as well as components of a makeshift explosive device were found and seized. Detective and search activities and investigative actions continue," the FSB said.
