Almost 90 children reunited with relatives in Ukraine - commissioner
In most of the cases, a child came to Russia with one of the parents, while the other remained abroad, the office of the Russian children’s right commissioner Maria Lvova-Belova said
MOSCOW, December 25. /TASS/. The office of the Russian children’s right commissioner, Maria Lvova-Belova, has helped 87 children to reunite with their relatives in Ukraine, while 15 children have returned to Russia.
"At this point, we have helped 87 children to reunite with their relatives in Ukraine, and brought another 15 children to their relatives on the Russian territory," the commissioner said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 television.
She went on to say that in most of the cases, a child came to Russia with one of the parents, while the other remained abroad; or a child travelled to Russia with another close relative while his parents remained on the territory of a different country.
"We weigh in each case very carefully, because we fully realize that the future of a child is at stake," Lvova-Belova said.
In her words, the effort has been conducted upon instructions from Russian President Vladimir Putin who described it as a humanitarian mission "with no place for politics.".
