Rosatom slams reports on corruption at Rooppur nuclear plant as false

NEW DELHI, December 24. /TASS/. Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom said that statements of a special team of the Anti-Corruption Committee (ACC) of Bangladesh on alleged thefts at the Rooppur nuclear power plant (NPP) projects are false and declared readiness to defend its reputation in court.

"Rosatom is committed to a policy of openness and the principle of combating corruption in all its projects and maintains a transparent procurement system. External audits regularly confirm the openness of the business processes of the project. Rosatom State Corporation is ready to defend its interests and reputation in court," the Russian state corporation said in its statement received by The Hindu newspaper.

"We consider false statements in the media as an attempt to discredit the Rooppur NPP project, which is being implemented to solve the country’s energy supply problems and is aimed at improving the well-being of the people of Bangladesh," the company added.

The special team of the Anti-Corruption Committee of Bangladesh started probing the day before into charges of alleged corruption, theft and money laundering put forward against ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her son and niece.

The Dhaka Tribune newspaper reports they are charged with corruption when signing agreements on implementation of nine infrastructural projects with foreign partners from 2009 to 2023.
