MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. More than half (52%) of respondents in a survey conducted by the Russian Public Opinion Research Center (VCIOM) report trusting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, while 38% do not, according to the results published on the center’s website.

"Despite the rapid growth in awareness, trust in artificial intelligence technologies remains unchanged compared to 2022. Today, 52%, or one in two respondents, report trusting these technologies, while 38% do not, which is 6 percentage points higher compared to 2022," the report stated.

Respondents cite the ability of AI to take on dangerous tasks, improve the quality of life, as well as its perceived objectivity and impartiality as reasons for their trust. Those who expressed distrust of such technologies pointed to system failures and errors in AI operation (28%), the potential for AI to go out of human control (26%), and the risk of its misuse for malicious purposes (23%). According to the respondents, video surveillance systems and robotics remain key areas of application for AI technologies, cited by 81% and 73%, respectively.

Although respondents still assign artificial intelligence a supporting role and are not yet ready to entrust it with making final decisions in various spheres, they believe the government should support the development of AI technologies.

The survey was conducted from November 21 to 24 and involved 1,601 Russians aged 18 and older.
