MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Russia’s financial monitoring watchdog has added the Russian structural branch of the Aum Shinrikyo sect (banned in Russia) to the list of terrorist and extremist organizations, according to data on the agency's website.

The Aum Shinrikyo sect was founded in Japan in 1987. In 1995, the sect’s members sprayed the poisonous substance "sarin" in the Tokyo subway. Thirteen people died and about 6.3 thousand were poisoned.

In 2016, Russia’s Supreme Court recognized Aum Shinrikyo as a terrorist organization and banned its activities in Russia.

In addition, the list includes Yaroslav Shirshikov, an activist from Yekaterinburg. Earlier, the Central District Military Court sentenced him to two years in prison in a case of justification of terrorism.
