More than 50 cases of terrorism financing uncovered in Russia from January to October
Andrey Kurnosenko emphasized that extremist and terrorist actions by nationalist, religious, ethnic, and other groups aimed at undermining Russia’s unity and territorial integrity and destabilizing the political and socio-economic landscape remain among the primary threats to national security
MOSCOW, December 16. /TASS/. Authorities uncovered 54 incidents of terrorism financing and 38 crimes linked to funding extremist activities in Russia during the first ten months of 2024, Andrey Kurnosenko, chief of the Russian interior ministry’s economic security and anti-corruption directorate, told TASS.
"In the first ten months of 2024, officers from the Russian interior ministry identified 54 cases of terrorism financing and 38 crimes related to financing extremist activities," he said, noting that funds used for terrorism financing often originate from illegal operations on grey markets. Recognizing this, the ministry has made disrupting these financing channels a top priority.
He emphasized that extremist and terrorist actions by nationalist, religious, ethnic, and other groups aimed at undermining Russia’s unity and territorial integrity and destabilizing the political and socio-economic landscape remain among the primary threats to national security.
"In 2024, this threat escalated further amid heightened radicalization fueled by statements from certain Western politicians and leaders of their satellites," he added.
