HAIKOU /China/, November 30. /TASS/. The authorities of the southern Chinese province of Hainan have published the rules for regulating the Near-Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone in Boao, the Nanguo Metropolis Daily reported.
According to the paper, the document consists of 7 articles and 37 paragraphs, regulating areas such as management, support measures, construction, economic activities, supervision mechanisms and other areas. The trial period of the demonstration zone will be three years.
The Boao Near-Zero Carbon Demonstration Zone Project was launched in 2022. It is located on Dongyu Island, home to the annual Boao Forum for Asia, and covers an area of about 190.2 hectares. The opening ceremony of the demonstration zone was held in March this year. As part of its construction, a number of projects have been implemented within the zone to promote the ecological transformation of buildings and transportation, as well as the use of renewable energy.
On June 1, 2020, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council of the People's Republic of China issued a program for the establishment of a free trade port in Hainan. The document provides for the creation of a special customs zone on this tropical island. The PRC authorities plan to complete the construction of a free port on the territory of the province in 2025, when the system of free trade and investment will be established on the island. By 2035, Hainan plans to ensure freedom of trade and investment, cross-border movement of capital, travel and transportation of goods.
