Robert Fico pointed out that "the Red Army and the peoples of the former Soviet Union made the greatest contribution to the defeat of fascism and the victory in World War II"

BRATISLAVA, November 27. /TASS/. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has officially accepted Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation to come to Moscow to participate in the events commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"I am very interested in participating in the official celebration of the victory over fascism, which will take place in Moscow on May 9, 2025. Therefore, I am happy to accept the official invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to participate in these important celebrations," Fico wrote on his Facebook page (a social media site banned in Russia since it is owned by Meta corporation, deemed extremist by the Russian authorities).

The Slovak prime minister pointed out that "the Red Army and the peoples of the former Soviet Union made the greatest contribution to the defeat of fascism and the victory in World War II." "The citizens of the Slovak Republic respect and honor all commemorations related to the liberation of our territory by the Red Army in 1944-1945 and [are] grateful for the assistance provided by the USSR to the Slovak National Uprising," he added.

"The Slovak government values the legacy of the fight against fascism, the historical truth about World War II and the role played by the Red Army in it. That is why the Slovak government will organize a number of events in 2025, the most important of which will be the celebration of the victory over fascism in May," Fico said.

Earlier, the Slovak prime minister said that he had agreed with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to travel together to Moscow to attend the Victory Day festivities. Fico emphasized that he was not afraid of any blowback he might get from other European leaders for deciding to attend the Victory Day parade in Moscow.
