Kremlin's chosen New Year's tree found outside Moscow
The tree was selected from almost three dozen "candidates" according to "the Kremlin’s standards"
MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. Experts have finally located Russia's main New Year's tree in the Moscow Region, the Administrative Directorate of the Russian President said on its Telegram channel.
This year’s selection is a fir tree with a pyramidal shape and a rich hue. Due to its dimensions, it will be easily transported to the Kremlin. "The finalist of the contest is 30 meters tall, 90 years old, the diameter of its trunk is 60 centimeters, and the span of its lower branches is about eight meters," the agency noted. The tree grows near the settlement of Znamenka, near Mozhaysk, to the west of Moscow.
The tree was selected from almost three dozen "candidates" according to "the Kremlin’s standards." It had to be around 100 years old, tall enough, have an appropriate trunk diameter, and a proper span of the lower branches, as well as being aesthetically pleasing in shape. Another essential requirement was direct access to the tree for its transport to Moscow.
To find the perfect spruce, representatives of the Administrative Directorate of the Russian President, the Government of the Moscow Region, and the regional branch of the forestry organization began their search in the summer. They traveled more than 3,000 kilometers to find Russia’s main Christmas tree.
