Police revokes citizenship of 1,300 foreigners since year’s start

According to Irina Volk, these measures have contributed to a decrease in crime rates among foreigners in Russia

MOSCOW, November 13. /TASS/. Russian police revoked the citizenship of more than 1,300 foreign nationals since the beginning of the year, Interior Ministry Spokeswoman Irina Volk told TASS.

"A total of 1,365 individuals have had their citizenship annulled," she said.

According to Volk, these measures have contributed to a decrease in crime rates among foreigners in Russia. The number of crimes committed by foreigners and stateless individuals has fallen by 2.6%, while the number of foreign citizens charged with crimes has dropped by 3.8%. The rate of crimes committed by foreign nationals now accounts for 4.3% of all closed cases.

"The number of serious and particularly grave crimes committed by foreigners has decreased by 4.4%, including a 4.3% reduction in murder and attempted murder, a 6.2% decrease in property offenses, and an 18.1% decline in illegal drug trafficking," the spokeswoman noted.
