Almost 13,000 people evacuated from flood zone in Russia’s Kurgan Region
At temporary accommodation centers, people are provided with hot meals as well as medical, legal and psychological aid
MOSCOW, April 15. /TASS/. Over 12,780 people have been evacuated in the Kurgan Region due to spring floods, the regional governor’s press service told TASS.
"As of 10:00 a.m. [5:00 a.m. GMT] on April 15, 12,782 people have been evacuated from already flooded populated areas as well as the flood risk zone," the press service said.
Including people with restricted mobility and those in need of care placed in medical facilities, 825 people, including 156 children, have been relocated to temporary accommodation centers. It was reported that the majority of evacuees had moved in with their relatives. "The evacuation from the potential flood zone forecasted by the Emergency Ministry continues," the regional government stressed.

A state of emergency was declared in the Kurgan Region on April 8. The water level in the Tobol River which flows through the region and crosses the city of Kurgan is expected to surpass 11 meters, putting the city at risk of flooding. All residents in the Tobol basin have been urged to evacuate. Some 309 residential buildings and 571 homesteads in five municipal districts remain flooded in the region.
