Tragedy strikes Kazakhstan's Caspian Sea coast as over 60 endangered seals found dead
The Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate continues monitoring the coastal area of the Caspian Sea
ASTANA, March 29. /TASS/. Kazakhstan’s Fisheries Inspection branch for the southwestern Mangystau Region found 62 dead seals when inspecting the Caspian Sea shore in the Tupkaragan district, the Fisheries Committee of Kazakhstan’s Agriculture Ministry said.
"A working group consisting of representatives of the Zhaiyk-Caspian Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate, the Mangystau Region’s Ecology Department and local executive bodies were fielded to the site where the seals were found. The Ecology Department for the Mangystau Region has collected water samples," the statement said.
The Interregional Basin Fisheries Inspectorate continues monitoring the coastal area of the Caspian Sea. The specialists are looking into the causes of the endangered Caspian seals’ death. Local authorities, the regional veterinary service, the environmental prosecutor’s office, as well as the Caspian Seal Research and Rehabilitation Center, the Hydrobiology and Ecology Institute and some other scientific institutions have been notified about the incident.
