Russia needs to 'overhaul' demographic policy, shoot for 600 mln people — congress

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Russia should strive to bring its population up to 600 million in the next 100 years, according to the document approved by the World Russian People’s Council at its unscheduled congress.
The document entitled "The 25th World Russian People’s Council’s Precept ‘The Present and Future of the Russian World’," which was approved on Wednesday, said, "The state should set a long-term strategic goal to increase Russia’s population to the ‘Mendeleev’ level of 600 million people over [the next] 100 years of sustainable demographic growth," the document said.

The document said that in general, Russia needs to draw up and adopt a new concept for its demographic policy involving a "fundamental overhaul" of key indicators.
