Spartak Moscow striker Promes taken to police precinct in Dubai
On February 14, a court in Amsterdam sentenced Quincy Promes to six years in prison after finding him guilty of drug smuggling
DUBAI, March 1. /TASS/. The Dubai Police Force detained Dutch striker from the Russian Premier League’s Spartak Moscow Football Club Quincy Promes at a passport control checkpoint at Al Maktoum International Airport on Thursday and delivered him to the Al Khawaneej police precinct, Dubai Police told TASS.
"Dutch citizen Quincy Promes was detained yesterday and taken to the Al Khawaneej police precinct," a police representative at the airport said. The staff of the Al Khawaneej police precinct confirmed that the footballer was on their premises.
Earlier, the Baza Telegram channel reported that Promes, who is on the wanted list per the Netherlands’ request, was unable to fly out with his team to St. Petersburg because he had been detained at a passport control checkpoint at Dubai Airport.
On February 14, a court in Amsterdam sentenced Promes to six years in prison after finding him guilty of drug smuggling. Last June, the footballer was found guilty of stabbing his cousin during a family get-together in 2020. Promes’ lawyers are appealing both verdicts.
