FSB detains 49 suspects in Russia’s 22 regions for collecting funds for militants in Syria
Some of the detainees had been spreading radical Islamic ideology and justified terrorist activities in Russia’s Muslim Ummah via the Internet
MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has detained 49 members of a terrorist ring engaged in fundraising for militants in Syria.
"In cooperation with the financial watchdog and the Investigative Committee an international channel of support for the international terrorist organization Katiba Tawhid wal-Jihad, banned in Russia, has been eliminated. Emissaries of the international terrorist organization in Syria had been coordinating the scheme," the FSB’s Public Relations Center said. "As a result of measures taken in 22 regions of Russia 49 members of a support group involved in the collection and transfer of funds for the needs of militants in Syria were detained."
Some of the detainees had been spreading radical Islamic ideology and justified terrorist activities in Russia’s Muslim Ummah via the Internet. The investigative authorities have launched criminal proceedings. Detective and search operations and investigative actions are continuing.
