CAIRO, December 26. /TASS/. About 4,700 trucks delivering humanitarian aid from Egypt have been received in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) in the past 2 months, the organization reported.

"PRCS representatives received 4,760 trucks delivering humanitarian aid to the people of the enclave from Egypt between October 21 and December 22," the organization said, according to the Al-Youm as-Sabia website. The humanitarian aid mainly included food, medicine and medical supplies, as well as drinking water.

The PRCS explained that out of these 4,760 trucks, a total of 3,049 vehicles were sent to the PRCS in particular, while slightly over 1,700 were sent to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and some other organizations. All aid was forwarded to local agencies, who distributed it to the people.

During the same time span, 60 refurbished ambulance vehicles were sent to the Gaza strip, as well as over 3,7 million liters of diesel fuel and 1.3 tons of liquefied natural gas.

The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated following an incursion of Hamas militants from the Gaza Strip into Israel on October 7. Hamas has cast the attack as a response to Israeli actions against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Israel has declared a complete siege of the Gaza Strip and started a military operation there. Israel also strikes parts of Lebanon and Syria in retaliation for bombardments originating from these countries. Clashes are also taking place in the West Bank.
