LGBT movement tagged as extremist in Russia — Supreme Court
As the lawsuit pointed out, various extremism-related signs and manifestations, including incitement of social and religious discord, have been identified in the movement's activities in Russia
MOSCOW, November 30./TASS/. Russia's Supreme Court has recognized the LGBT movement as extremist and banned its activity in the country, TASS reports.
"To sustain the claim by the Justice Ministry to recognize the LGBT movement as extremist," the judge announced the decision.
The court’s decision will go into effect immediately. The hearing was held behind closed doors due to the presence of classified materials in the case; the defendant's representatives did not appear in court. The court took about four hours to study the evidence presented by the Ministry of Justice, after which the operative part of the judgement was announced, from which the court's motives remain unknown.
The Justice Ministry had previously filed a lawsuit to ban the LGBT movement. As the lawsuit pointed out, various extremism-related signs and manifestations, including incitement of social and religious discord, have been identified in the movement's activities on the territory of the Russian Federation.
