Strong wind, rain hinder efforts to get power back on in Crimea - Energy Ministry
The Ministry is overseeing the operation until the power supply is restored to all households of the region
MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. Foul weather conditions are getting in the way of efforts to restore electricity in Crimea, with households that previously got their power turned on losing it again due to strong wind and rain, the Russian Energy Ministry said in a statement.
As of 12:00 p.m. GMT (3:00 p.m. Moscow time), about 117,000 people were without electricity.
Furthermore, shelling of Russian energy facilities in the Kherson Region and a ban on working overnight are keeping electrical engineers from restoring the power faster.
The Ministry is overseeing the operation until the power supply is restored to all households, the report says.
It continues the work to restore power to consumers in cooperation with energy companies, regional authorities, contractors and private organizations. More than 500 brigades, which is about 2,000 people and more than 600 units of special equipment, are engaged in the emergency recovery work.
The cyclone that rocked Russia’s Black Sea coast at night and in the morning of November 27 was marked by hurricane winds and massive flooding. The affected regions include Crimea, Sevastopol, the Krasnodar, Stavropol and Rostov regions, the people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk, and the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The weather damaged houses, caused power outages and traffic problems. According to the Russian Energy Ministry, about 1.9 million people were affected by the outage.
