Unemployment in Russia at all-time low in October, statistics service says
According to statistics, the total number of unemployed in Russia in October amounted to 2.2 million people
MOSCOW, November 29. /TASS/. The rate of unemployment in Russia in October 2023 dropped to 2.9% from 3% in September, updating its historical minimum, the Federal statistics service reported.
"The rate of unemployment among the population aged 15 years and older in October 2023 was 2.9% (without excluding seasonal factors)," the statistics service says.
According to statistics, the total number of unemployed in Russia in October amounted to 2.2 million people.
"The labor force aged 15 years and over in October 2023 was 76.3 million people, of which 74.1 million people were categorized as employed in economic activities and 2.2 million people were categorized as unemployed, meeting ILO criteria (i.e. did not have a job or gainful occupation, were looking for work and were ready to start work in the surveyed week)," the statistics service says.
In October 2023, among the unemployed citizens aged 15 years and older, the share of women was 51.4%, the rate of unemployment for women (3.1%) is higher than that one for men (2.8%). Of the 2.2 million unemployed, 0.9 million are rural residents, about 1.4 million are urban residents. The rate of unemployment among rural residents (4.8%) exceeds the rate of unemployment among urban residents (2.3%).
The average age of unemployed people aged 15 years and older in October 2023 was 37.9 years. The share of young people under 25 years of age among the unemployed is 20.5%, the share of people aged 50 years and older is 23.5%, and those without work experience is 29.5%.
