Kremlin Christmas tree chosen with help of satellite imagery
"The tree is 84 years old and has a trunk diameter of 60 cm," the report says
MOSCOW, November 20. /TASS/. Foresters have picked out the country's main Christmas tree, which will go to the Kremlin, based on satellite imagery, the press service of Federal Agency for Forestry’s department Roslesinforg reported.
The 25-meter-tall tree is located in the Shchyolkovsky District of the Moscow Region, near the settlement of Fryanovo.
"Roslesinforg analyzed images from space to measure the height of the country's main Christmas tree and determine its exact location. The title of the Kremlin beauty this year was given to a 25-meter-tall Yelena tree from the village of Fryanovo near Moscow. The tree is 84 years old and has a trunk diameter of 60 cm," the report says.
The Kremlin Christmas tree is chosen very carefully each year. The review is held in all forestries of the Moscow Region. As a rule, every year the tree is chosen from a pool of about 50-70 spruces. The main requirements are a smooth and unbent trunk, smooth cone-shaped crown with not too thick needles, so that it does not shade the Christmas tree lights and decorations. The most important thing is a convenient location so that heavy machinery can easily get the tree out of the forest.
