"Dear compatriots, friends! We, Russian crew members of the International Space Station, congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts on National Unity Day!" said Oleg Kononenko, who also holds the title of a TASS special correspondent
MOSCOW, November 4. /TASS/. Cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko, Nikolai Chub and Konstantin Borisov congratulated fellow Russians on National Unity Day from onboard the International Space Station, in a video that was released by Roscosmos.
"Dear compatriots, friends! We, Russian crew members of the International Space Station, congratulate you from the bottom of our hearts on National Unity Day!" said Kononenko, who also holds the title of a TASS special correspondent.
He also said this day is a holiday for all people who work to make Russia stronger and more prosperous, while honoring the country’s great history.
Chub recalled the deep historical roots of the holiday.
"The peoples of Russia in the 17th century joined up the militia alongside Kuzma Minin and Dmitry Pozharsky, were able to unite and defend the sovereignty of the country, rid our land of invaders, restore the government, revive and strengthen the country," the cosmonaut said.
Borisov expressed confidence that these days as well the sense of unity will help Russian citizens cope with all difficulties, demonstrate strength of spirit and devotion to the people's ideals.
"The history of our nation is a paragon of true patriotism and love for the fatherland, which inspires our citizens to work for the good of our country," he said.
