Russia plans to launch national system to counter DDoS attacks in early 2024
Sergey Khutortsev noted that the center is also expanding its capabilities to prevent attacks using both technical equipment and other means
SOCHI, October 25. /TASS/. The Russian national DDoS defense system is expected to be fully operational in the Q1 of 2024, Sergey Khutortsev, Director of the Center for Monitoring and Management of the Public Communications Network under Russia’s media watchdog (Roskomnadzor) said.
"The system will be in test mode in November and will become fully operational in the first quarter of next year. Operators will voluntarily connect to it," he said. "We already have several interested companies, both large operators and large companies in the field of providing DDoS protection," he told reporters.
Khutortsev added that the center is also expanding its capabilities to prevent attacks using both technical equipment and other means. "We are building two traffic clearing centers with a total capacity of almost one terabit. They will have professional equipment and security tools that will allow us to filter complex attacks, where the traffic of the attacked entity must pass through this infrastructure. We will help both the industry and the attacked information systems, but first and foremost this infrastructure will be for socially significant information resources and critical information infrastructure platforms," he said.
As of 2023, the center has already recorded and prevented over 9,000 DDoS attacks. According to Khutortsev, this is a 300% increase over the previous year.
