World's oldest dog dies at 31 in Portugal

Bobi entered the Guinness Book of Records in February 2023, when the dog was more than 30 years old

LONDON, October 23. /TASS/. A dog named Bobi, who entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest dog ever, died in Portugal at the age of 31, according to a statement published on the website of the world record book.

"Bobi lived to be 31 years 165 days old. He passed away on October 21 at his home in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros, where he lived his entire life with the Costa family," the statement said.

The Rafeiro do Alentejo guard dog was born on May 11, 1992. Bobi entered the Guinness Book of Records in February 2023, when the dog was more than 30 years old. His age is confirmed by the records of the Veterinary Medical Service of the Municipality of Leiria and the National Union of Veterinarians. The average life expectancy of the Rafeiro do Alentejo guard dogs is between 12 and 14 years.

The previous world’s oldest dog was Bluey, an Australian Cattle Dog, who lived in southwest Australia for 29 years and was euthanized in 1939 due to severe illness. Her age was also confirmed by the records. The record of a dog named Chila, an Australian Shepherd Lab Mix who died in 1984, has not been definitively confirmed. According to her owner, she was 32 years and 3 days old.
