Ukraine 'lone' threat to ZNPP — Rosatom CEO
Alexey Likhachev stressed that Russia’s fundamental position remained unchanged, with safety of the nuclear sites and installations being an absolute priority
VIENNA, September 25. /TASS/. The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is at risk only from what the Kiev regime may do to it, Director General of Russia’s Rosatom State Atomic Energy Corporation Alexey Likhachev said, addressing the 67th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference.
"In the more than one year that my colleagues and IAEA inspectors have been working at the Zaporozhye nuclear plant, I can say that the reckless actions of the Kiev armed forces are the lone threat to the plant and its personnel," he pointed out.
Likhachev stressed that Russia’s fundamental position remained unchanged. That is, that the safety of nuclear sites and installations was an absolute priority. "We take all necessary measures to ensure the nuclear safety and security of the Zaporozhye NPP," he said, adding that Russia maintained close cooperation with the IAEA on the matter.
"We have continuously supported [IAEA] Director General Grossi’s efforts to that end. IAEA staff members have been permanently present at the plant since September 1, 2022. Their eleventh team is currently working there; notably, Mr. Grossi personally led three rotation operations. We will continue to ensure and guarantee conditions for effective and safe work of IAEA staff members," Likhachev said.
