Investigators are now gathering and consolidating evidence in the case
CHELYABINSK, July 31. /TASS/. Investigators have brought criminal charges against a Chelyabinsk resident for allegedly kidnapping a woman in 2009 who recently managed to escape from 14 years of captivity, according to materials published by the press service of the regional Investigative Committee.
"Chelyabinsk Region investigators have opened a criminal case against a local resident suspected under Part 2, Article 126 of the Russian Criminal Code (RCC) ("Kidnapping"). <...> At present, the man is in the custody of law enforcement officers [undergoing observation] in a medical institution," the statement said.
According to investigators, in Chelyabinsk in the fall of 2009, the man enticed a local resident, a woman, to enter a private house under the pretext of drinking alcohol. He then held her captive in the house until now. The man was taken to a medical institution after a psychological disorder flared up, after which the woman was able to escape from the house.
Investigators are now gathering and consolidating evidence in the case.
The press service added that, while probing the kidnapping case, investigators established that the suspect was implicated in the murder of another local resident in 2011 and brought additional criminal charges under RCC Article 105 ("Murder"). After committing the murder, the suspect allegedly dismembered his female victim’s body and buried the remains in the basement of the house.
