HAIKOU /China/, June 12. /TASS/. Sanya city on the southern coast of Hainan Island was given the status of an advanced settlement with water-saving technologies in China. This was reported by the Sanya Daily newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the National Development and Reform Commission of the People's Republic of China has put Sanya on the list of the country's cities that use water resources in the most efficient and economical way. This is another confirmation that China's leading resort is successfully forming a new model of ecological development.

The authors of the publication point out that the Sanyaadministration pays close attention to the introduction of low-carbon technology and advanced cleaning methods. Thanks to this, the city is able to process up to 210.5 thousand cubic meters of water per day. In 2022 about 25% of consumed water resources (29.5 million cubic meters), as noted, were reused - this is much higher than the average for Hainan (7%).

Sanya is China's leading resort, home to more than 1 million people. In 2022, its gross product is 84.71 billion yuan (about $12.2 billion). The city reaches an average annual temperature of 25.4 degrees Celsius and has a coastline of more than 200 kilometers. There are 19 bays and about 40 islands suitable for tourism in the surrounding waters, all of which enable the local government to successfully develop yacht and beach tourism.
